The multiplayer tab
This is unofficial, non-commercial QuakeWorld in the browser. Up to eight players can join, and you install nothing. You are not sent to a desktop client, and you are not asked to import a personal pak on this host.
Eight is a cap, not a promise that seven other people are waiting. The match can happen here. An empty room is the live state of the host, not a missing file on your machine.
This room is QuakeWorld, separate from Quake II deathmatch and from Quake III Arena. Quake III supports mobile and a gamepad, and whether it needs your files is still unknown. Three hosts, three different rooms.
The id cluster
Quake sits with Quake II, Quake III, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Urban Terror, Half-Life, WebXash, and Diablo. Several of those are also no-install browser matches. WebXash is not: you select a folder you already have, with valve, cstrike, or both. Diablo can start as shareware without a local data file and can also load your DIABDAT.MPQ.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein warns that the first load is about 380 MB, then caches it, and it is not affiliated with id, Activision, or Bethesda. Quake does not carry that download size. Read the size warning on the Wolfenstein game if you open that host instead.
This is a fan port, not an official re-release. The tab invites you to QuakeWorld multiplayer. The card name stays Quake so the home sort is obvious.
